Did You Know That?

The 600 million year old Great Barrier Reef could be seen from outer space? Astronauts on space flights were amazed to learn that they could clearly see the giant coral reef from their space rockets. The Great Barrier Reef, which extends for 2,028 kilometer (1,260 miles) along the coast of Queensland in north-eastern Australia and which covers an area of 208,000 square kilometer (80,000 square miles), supports a greater density of life per given area than anywhere else on earth.

The great Barrier Reef is composed of millions and millions of tiny stony cups, home to coral polyps - small animals related to anemones and jelly fishes.
